PDF Processed in your browser, never uploaded

Runs entirely in your browser: the text, its styling and its position on the page are read directly from the PDF and rebuilt as a Word document. Bold, italic, text colour, font size and font name all carry over, each page keeps its own size, wrapped lines are joined back into paragraphs, tables with visible borders come through as real Word tables, and side-by-side columns are read one at a time. Photos, logos and backgrounds are pinned to the spot on the page they were drawn at, behind the text, so writing set over a dark panel stays readable, and every block of text is pinned to the position it had in the PDF, so the page comes out looking like the original. A font your computer does not have is swapped for the nearest common one. Borderless tables are not rebuilt, and a scanned page is kept as a picture of the page, since making its words editable would need OCR.

About this tool

Reads the text, its styling and its exact position on every line of a PDF and rebuilds it as a Word document: bold, italic, text colour, font and size all carry over, lines that only wrapped because they ran out of room are joined back into whole paragraphs, and every page keeps the size and orientation it had in the PDF.

Any photo, logo, signature or background panel embedded in the PDF is pulled out and pinned to the exact spot on the page it was drawn at, sitting behind the text so that white or light writing set over a dark panel stays readable instead of disappearing onto a blank page.

Works on any PDF that has selectable text, such as a notification, admit card or form downloaded from a government portal. A scanned document saved as one big image page has no selectable text to extract, so there is nothing for this tool to convert; the same page as a normal PDF with a small embedded photo works fine.

A table drawn with visible borders is rebuilt as a real Word table, cell by cell, and a page laid out in side-by-side columns is read one column at a time instead of zig-zagging between them. A table with no borders at all is the one case that stays as plain text, since nothing on the page marks where its cells begin and end.

Frequently asked questions

›What happens with a scanned PDF?

A scanned page is a photo of a page, so it comes through as that picture, at the right size, and the tool tells you how many pages were scans. The words in it are not editable, because reading text out of a photo needs OCR, which this tool does not do; run the file through an OCR tool first if you need that text as text.

›Will the formatting look exactly like the PDF?

Bold and italic styling, text colour, fonts, sizes, paragraphs, page size, bordered tables, column order and positioned images all carry over, and every block of text is pinned to the position it had in the PDF, so even a designed brochure page comes out looking like the original. A font your computer does not have is swapped for the nearest common one, and borderless tables are not rebuilt.

›Does this work on password-protected PDFs?

No, an encrypted PDF needs to be unlocked first, with the password, before its text and images can be extracted.
