About this tool

Every recruitment notification fixes age on a specific cut-off date (usually 1 January, 1 July or the last date of application), not on the day you apply. This calculator takes your date of birth and that cut-off date and returns your age to the exact day, so there is no ambiguity about whether you fall inside the band.

Enter the minimum and maximum age printed in the advertisement and pick your category to see the relaxed upper limit applied on top. Upper-age relaxation follows the standard central-government pattern (3 years for OBC, 5 for SC/ST, 10 for PwD over and above the category relaxation); state and organisation-specific rules differ, so always confirm against the notification itself.

Frequently asked questions

›Which date should I use as the cut-off?

The date printed in the notification under 'age as on'. For most SSC and UPSC exams it is 1 January or 1 August of the exam year; for state PSCs and police recruitment it is frequently the last date for submitting the application.

›How is age relaxation applied?

Relaxation raises the upper age limit only; the minimum stays the same. The calculator adds the relaxation years for your category to the maximum age you entered and then checks your age against the relaxed band.

›Does the calculator count leap years correctly?

Yes. Age is computed calendar-wise (years, then months, then remaining days), which is exactly how recruiters compute it, so 29 February births are handled correctly.
