About this tool
Once the provisional answer key is out, the only thing standing between you and your score is the negative marking arithmetic. Enter how many answers were right and how many were wrong, and this calculator returns your raw score, your attempt rate and your accuracy.
The presets carry the standard marking scheme for the major exams (SSC at +2/−0.5, NEET and JEE at +4/−1, CUET at +5/−1, UPSC Prelims at +2/−0.66 and railway exams at +1/−0.33), and any of them can be overridden for an exam with its own scheme.
Frequently asked questions
›How does negative marking work?
A fixed fraction is subtracted for every wrong answer. Unattempted questions are neutral, which is why accuracy matters more than attempt count in exams with a steep penalty.
›What is a good accuracy in competitive exams?
In exams with a one-fourth penalty, accuracy above 85% on attempted questions usually beats attempting more with lower accuracy. The calculator shows both so you can compare strategies.
›Are dropped questions handled?
Questions dropped by the examining body are typically awarded to everyone. Count them as correct when entering your tally.
