Number to Words Converter
Convert a rupee amount into words, for cheques, DDs and forms
Works for whole rupees or with paise, e.g. 12500.50
Enter an amount to see it written out in words.
About this tool
Cheques, demand drafts and several application forms ask for an amount to be written out in words as well as figures, using the Indian numbering system of thousand, lakh and crore rather than the international million and billion. This tool converts any rupee amount, with or without paise, into that written form.
Useful when preparing a demand draft for an exam fee, since a mismatch between the figure and the words on a DD is a common reason banks reject one.
Frequently asked questions
›Does this use the Indian or international numbering system?
Indian: thousand, lakh and crore, which is what's expected on cheques, DDs and forms used in India.
›Can it handle paise?
Yes. Enter an amount with two decimal places, e.g. 12500.50, and the paise are written out separately after the rupee amount.
